We visited as a couple with our 19 year old daughter. The island has a great balance between being as natural as possible whilst keeping the refinement you would expect from a luxury property. Without re-iterating too much of what others have said before, all meals were faultless, well presented and tasted great. We upgraded to DAI and although we probably didn't get value for money as we are not big drinkers we did appreciate the in villa dining be included once per day. This is a USP as not many resorts offer this without extra charge and would be a standout reason for us to return. Our Katheeb (butler) Bella was brilliant and always on hand very quickly for any questions, bookings, etc via WhatsApp. We also appreciated the housekeeper introducing themselves at the beginning of your stay. It feels so personal and lovely touch. We initially started off in a two bed beach villa which was huge and had everything you need. It was on a beautiful stretch of beach with calm waters near the Spa. The only downside for us was the mosquitoes and we got bitten badly (up to 20 bites on one day alone!) despite using coils, plug ins, repellent, wrist bands and dousing ourselves in citronella from head to toe regularly. This is partly due to the time of year, rain in the preceding days/weeks and lush vegetation. We were aware we were not the only ones affected by this and it seems that they fogged to try and reduce the problem but I am aware they are trying to be green and have in the past not fogged. It is probably a bit of a losing battle and of course the geckos need something to eat too. However, we then moved over the water and OMG - we loved it! We experienced both a lagoon and reef villa and if you love snorkelling then a reef villa is a must. We loved the ease of access to the reef and experienced some of the best snorkelling we have had so far in the Maldives. Although the resort was quiet (early September) service was impeccable at every turn and we actually enjoyed the peacefulness and would return at the same time of year again for this reason. We queried whether a late checkout and domestic transfer was available for out 11pm flight from Male and we were thrilled with the ease with which this was arranged. It saved us from spending upwards of 7 hours in Male as the seaplanes don't really fly beyond 3/4pm. We will definitely be returning...hopefully next year as a couple in a reef villa. Read Less

A: age 15 What was the best thing about Amilla? Everything was awesome: the food, the ice cream, the ocean, the beaches, the waves. I loved the scuba diving trips because of all the cool stuff I could see. It was really quiet on the boat and the guys were kind - they had fruit kebabs which were delicious, AND chocolate cookies too! The food was always brilliant. My two favourite things were Joe’s Pizza (you can get it anywhere in Amilla) and I loved the fish curries. I went to the gym with my brother, all the equipment was incredible. I liked the weights room and the cold towels in the freezer. The sound system in our room was great, (thank you Rohat, and for the fun towels) the air con was utterly silent (never normally happens). I loved our bikes to cycle through the coolest jungle even though mine didn’t have any brakes. I want to go back again very soon. H: age 13 The best thing about Amilla is the pool table in the air con bar, and the football pitch. I also enjoyed the gym, they have the same rowing machine as my school. I loved going on the snorkel trips with Wexy to see turtles and sharks and also to the Blue Hole. F - age 10 I learned to scuba dive with Silvio. I am now a PADI Junior Open Water diver and I can go to 12m. On my last dive I saw a cave of sleeping nurse sharks and I went into the Blue Hole. It’s beyond amazing. I swam with my Dad from our room to Feeling Koi to see the black tip reef sharks before lunch. They are so scary. Nafha is the best lady chef - we’re going to try to make her Mas Riha. Thanks for teaching me. I: age 10 Art class -Charith makes me imaginative, and think about all the fish and palm trees, and I’m proud of my artwork. He is very calm and kind. I especially liked the batik creations. He helps me turn my mistakes into masterpieces. Thank you. Sealife - snorkelling from the ladder by our room is mad. The sharks, fish and starfish are so cool. I saw a whale shark nearby and we had a cow tailed ray near our room for days. The colour of the sea is unbelievable. I love Ivan and his fire circle in the ocean. The best things in breakfast are the delicious crepes. Read Less
